Surrounded by the Majesty of Mayfair

Named after a fifteen day spring fair that ran up until the 1700s, Mayfair has become synonymous with exclusivity and luxury living. This upscale district bordering the leafy aisles of Hyde Park encompasses handsome rows of Georgian townhouses, five star hotels, private member’s clubs and the highest saturation of Michelin star restaurants in London. Institutions such as the The Ritz are located in Mayfair, a luxury hotel that has a long established tradition for serving the great British Afternoon Tea. Across the road, prestigious designer boutiques also tempt affluent residents with their wares, and the historic tailors on Saville Row can create bespoke commissions for groomsmen nearby. During their stay, your wedding guests might enjoy browsing in the charming shopping arcades and gazing at age old paintings in The Royal Academy of Arts. Speaking of cultural encounters, Mayfair is also home to the world famous Sotheby’s auction, an emporium of precious antiques and collectables. But for more high street prices, the retailers along Oxford Street and Piccadilly are dream destinations for shopoholics.

The district of Mayfair is a stunning place to marry whether you choose Dartmouth House wedding venue itself or a charming neighbourhood church. For a religious ceremony, there are a large number of options within walking distance, the closest being ‘The Third Church of Christ, Scientist’, located just two minutes away, and ‘The Church of the Immaculate Conception’, also affectionately known as ‘Farm Street Church’, situated four minutes away. Both are vibrant and characterful places of worship with their own distinctive histories. The former has a long rooted connection with Boston in Massachusetts, and the latter is a vaulted Gothic revival Catholic church with an impressive collection of religious paintings and sculpture from its resident artist. Additionally, the official Mayfair parish church is the ‘Grosvenor Chapel’, a picturesque 18th Century Anglican church with a quaint symmetrical design and intimate interior, located just a six minute walk away.
